The Snedden Hall & Gallop University Scholarship turns 21 this year! Since we first awarded the scholarships in 1999, we’ve helped almost 40 aspiring lawyers by providing financial assistance during the first three years of their university studies. Many scholarship winners have also been able to join our team, even if only for a short time.
To commemorate this significant birthday, we’re going through the archives to give you an update on where some of those young stars are now.
In this profile we find out what one of our more recent winners, Tanya Mirkovic, has been up to.
Tanya Mirkovic
Where is she now?
Tanya is working in a graduate position at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) in Sydney.
How did she get there?
After finishing here secondary schooling at Narrabundah College, Tanya completed a Bachelor of Laws at the Australian National University, graduating with first class honours.
Tanya works in APRA’s insurance policy development team, but hopes to move into their litigation team after completing the graduate program and the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP).
She has also been volunteering with the Animal Defenders Office, which is the only community legal centre in the NSW/ACT area specialising in animal law. Animal rights, and animal law in particular, has always been one of Tanya’s passions. She even spoke about it at her interview for the scholarship back in 2014! Tanya said she loves being able to engage in work that combines her passions of animals and the law.
What does Tanya say about the scholarship?
‘I was lucky enough to do work experience at Snedden Hall & Gallop, which was an incredible opportunity and allowed me to engage with a range of inspiring legal professionals across different areas of the firm. What I valued most while undertaking this work experience was the opportunity to be given real and meaningful work. This gave me a taste of what working in a private legal practice may be like. It also provided me with a vast skillset in legal writing and analysis, which I’ve carried through my academic and professional career.
I’d like to thank Snedden Hall & Gallop for the amazing experience with their firm, and further igniting my passion for the law and pursuing a career in the legal field.’
