Ellen Teys
Special Counsel
Ellen has worked in civil litigation in Canberra since she moved to ANU in 2011, and started as a receptionist at Blumers Lawyers, a prominent personal injury firm.
She continued as an assistant, paralegal and graduate lawyer at this firm, graduating from ANU with a bachelor of law/arts (politics and international relations double major) in 2015.
Ellen was admitted to the ACT Supreme Court 5 months later in 2016.
She practiced in personal injury, insurance and superannuation law until 2018, when she moved to Colquhoun Murphy, a local commercial law firm.
Ellen was awarded her Masters of Legal Practice in 2019, also from ANU.
Since 2018, she has developed a broad practice in civil litigation, including contract and equity disputes, employment law, commercial lease disputes, building construction disputes and administrative law matters.
She is particularly interested in advising businesses in relation to their employment law disputes, policies and contracts. She is passionate about helping litigation clients protect themselves during what can be a difficult time, whether it be through collaborative settlement, asset protection or intricate knowledge of civil procedure.
Ellen has been a member of the ACT Civil Litigation Committee since 2017. She is admitted to the ACT Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia, giving her appearance rights in all Australian courts, including Federal.
Outside of work, Ellen loves gardening (where she is slowly improving her plant survival rate) and cooking with her homegrown produce. She can usually be found chasing her two very energetic boys around yet another of Canberra’s fabulous playgrounds.
