From bushfires and hail to a global pandemic, 2020 has been a challenging year for many people. It is more important, now more than ever, to look after ourselves and each other.
RUOK? Day is held in September, however the team at RUOK? have identified the whole month of September to take the time to start a conversation when needed, take some time to look after yourself, and ensure we stay connected. R U OK’s mission is to inspire and empower people to connect and support those around them who may be struggling with life.
Throughout September, we set the SHG team the task of a self-care challenge – one small act everyday to look after themselves or others. This consisted of having walks every Wednesday as a team soaking up the spring sunshine, free coffee to kick start our morning and to take time out of our days to do something we enjoy. We were lucky enough to do some fun team activities during the month as well, including Mexican Monday Lunch, and Fresh Fruit Thursday (from our friends at Ziggys Fresh).
We were also fortunate enough to have Brendan Maher (representing RUOK? And Movember), a funnily enough who was a former team member at Snedden Hall & Gallop, come and talk to us about the importance of conversations, and taking the time to check-in on each other.
Traditionally, the legal industry doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to work life balance. During the month it was refreshing to see a number of team members make a conscious effort to prioritise self care, whatever that may have meant for them.
