The Snedden Hall & Gallop University Scholarship turns 21 this year! Since we first awarded the scholarships in 1999, we’ve helped almost 40 aspiring lawyers by providing financial assistance during the first three years of their university studies. Many scholarship winners have also been able to join our team, even if only for a short time.
To commemorate this significant birthday, we’re going through the archives to give you an update on where some of those young stars are now.
In this profile we find out more about 2001 scholarship winner Nicola Jackson.
Nicola Jackson
Where is she now?
Nicola is a senior lawyer with Gilbert + Tobin in Melbourne.
How did she get there?
Nicola was attending Radford College when she won the Snedden Hall & Gallop University Scholarship. After completing her studies the Australian National University she worked as a lawyer in the Government team at Blake Dawson until 2010.
Nicola then joined Gilbert + Tobin in their new Melbourne office, working in their telecommunications, media and technology team until 2012. She followed this with several years as a senior lawyer at Telstra, completing her Master of Commercial Law (with a focus on competition law and antitrust) at the same time.
In 2017, Nicola returned to Gilbert + Tobin to take up a role as a senior lawyer in Australia’s leading and largest Competition + Regulation team. She works on a range of complex and high-profile investigation and enforcement matters with a particular focus on the financial services and telecommunications sectors.
What does Nicola say about the scholarship?
‘The scholarship experience with Snedden Hall & Gallop was a great way to start my study of law and I particularly enjoyed the opportunities to be involved in observing litigation in action with one of the Snedden Hall & Gallop partners during my first year. In addition to the financial assistance, the scholarship experience was a great way to connect with the team at Snedden, Hall & Gallop and other scholarship recipients.‘
