The Snedden Hall & Gallop University Scholarship turns 21 this year! Since we first awarded the scholarships in 1999, we’ve helped almost 40 aspiring lawyers by providing financial assistance during the first three years of their university studies. Many scholarship winners have also been able to join our team, even if only for a short time.
To commemorate this significant birthday, we’re going through the archives to give you an update on where some of those young stars are now.
In this profile we find out more about one of our first scholarship winners, Lara Radik.
Lara Radik
Where is she now?
Lara is a special counsel with Carter Newell Lawyers in Brisbane.
How did she get there?
Lara, a Radford College student, was one of the two inaugural scholarship winners in 1999. She joined Snedden Hall & Gallop as a paralegal while she was completing her studies at the Australian National University and went on to become a Senior Associate with us in 2010. Unfortunately, she left us – and Canberra – in 2013.
Lara joined Carter Newell Lawyers in 2013. She is part of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution team, focusing on workplace and industrial relations, and workplace health and safety.
What does Lara say?
‘The scholarship gave me an invaluable opportunity to gain experience in the practice of law and to build upon the theories I learned in the classroom environment. The collegiate environment at SHG allowed me to work across several areas of law, including personal injury, commercial law and employment law. As a paralegal and newly admitted solicitor, I particularly valued the open door policy at SHG and the willingness of the directors and senior lawyers to share their knowledge and experience.’
