The SHG ‘Be the best you can be’ sports day is in its 18th year. Last year, over 400 school children from across the ACT attended the carnival. The event allows primary and high school students with a physical or intellectual disability to have fun while participating in modified sporting activities in a supportive environment.
When: Tuesday 18 September 2018
Time: 10am to 1pm
Where: AIS Track & Field Facility, Bruce, ACT
The Snedden Hall & Gallop team is not alone in organising this event. The day wouldn’t be possible without the enthusiastic and generous support of our sponsors: AIS, Supabarn, Capital Chemist, Party Down Productions, Panache Driver Training, OwnIt Finance, Cancer Council ACT, State Emergency Service, YMCA and the Canberra Raiders.
This year, we are excited to partner with a number of new organisations to provide new sporting challenges for the students. Thank you to Capital Football, Little Athletics and Athletics ACT, ACT Basketball, B Firm, National Rugby League, GingerCloud and Vikings Canberra for volunteering their time and resources to support the event.
We are excited to announce that we have a number of local celebrities attending the event. These include Louise Ellery, paralympian and Commonwealth Games medallist for seated shotput; Cam Crombie, gold medallist at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships; and Sue Powell, paralympic gold and silver medal cyclist.
We will also be joined by Cancer Council’s Sid the Seagull, YMCA’s Philbert the Frog, SES’s Paddy Platypus, Victor the Viking and SHG’s very own Shaggy the Turtle.
These lovable characters will be participating in our very first Celebrity Dance Off.
The Woden School’s Party Down Productions will be back this year, again providing entertainment over the lunchtime break for everyone.
